“RISE AND SHINE JULES! TIME TO WAKE UP!” Roy yelled, waking Jules out of his sleep. “Can I at least brush my teeth first.” Jules asked. “Come on, Dylan is coming over today in about an hour?” Roy said. “Yeah, but I know if he comes over, he will say that I could bring friends." Jules explained. “Well, maybe he wants to make it up to you.” Roy said. “Suddenly, I’m worried about what to wear.” Jules said. “You haven’t planned your outfit out yet? Good luck I’m early enough to help you.” Roy said.

Thirty minutes later.

"Hey Jules! Pizza night still on?" Dylan came running up beside Jules as Jules walked home after a long day at the arcade. Jules smiled warmly at Dylan’s crooked grin. "Only if I order the pizza this time. Who in the heck puts anchovies on a pizza anyways?" Jules glared at him, but his grin never wavered. "I have it on good authority that anchovies are delicious and anyone who says otherwise is mentally unstable." Dylan said while he bumped Jules shoulder as they walked, side by side. "Who is this 'good authority' that's polluting your mind in such a way?" Jules said.

Jules and Dylan were approaching their houses, his being closest. "I will never reveal my sources!" Dylan exclaimed as he ran down his driveway, to his front door. He turned around to wink and salute at Jules before slamming the door shut. Jules sighed "Boys." Jules muttered and shook his head.

Three minutes later.

Group chat: Kyle, Dylan, Johnny, Mickey, Jules.

Jules: who's going to have 2 pizza nights?

Kyle: Sorry. Last minute shift change at the diner😢

Mickey: I can't either, my mom got sick and I need to take care of her.

Johnny: I have a headache.🤕 sorry, no

Dylan: more pizza for me and Jules, I guess?😉

Group chat: Johnny, Kyle, Mickey, Dylan

Dylan: alright people, operation to get Jules to go out with me is underway.

Mickey: What?

Dylan: operation make your excuses to not go to pizza night tonight so that I can be alone with Jakari!

Dylan: Has everyone made their excuses?

Johnny: yep

Kyle: you betcha

Mickey: wait, we were supposed to prepare for this!?!? Guys! I'm terrible at lying!

Johnny: It's fine, just say whatever.

Dylan: alright, initiate operation. Go go go!!

The doorbell rang at 7 o'clock exactly. Jules smiled and raced to the door. After Jules found out it was just going to be him and Dylan, his heart leaped, Jules spent nearly an hour picking out an outfit, finally deciding on a black shirt and yellow and black flannel. Not too casual. Not too fancy. It was perfect. Jules took a moment to compose himself before opening the door and smiling brightly. On the other side was Dylan wearing a black and white flannel and his lopsided grin. "Hey, Jules!" Dylan said, a bit too loudly as he walked in. "So, uh, what first? Movie? Video games? When's the pizza coming? You look beautiful by the way, did I mention that? Not that you don't look pretty normally, you always look good, it's just-" Dylan kept rambling, wringing his hands and tossing his messy brown curly hair.

Jules smiled at his nervousness. "Yeah," Jules said, stopping Dylan ramblings. Jules couldn't stop smiling, perhaps his face was stuck, "I'd say, video games first, then, once the pizza comes, we pop in a movie. Sounds good?" Jules gestured toward the living room where Jules already had Fortnite cued up. "Yeah, yeah. Sounds good." Dylan said nervously. Jules smiled. "You want a drink?" Jules asked. "Yeah. Yes. Um, Root Beer?" Dylan fidgeted with the buttons on his shirt. Jules ran down to the fridge, graves two Root Beers, and plopped down on the sofa next to Ethan.

There were maybe 20 minutes in the game when Jules stopped thinking of Dylan's nervousness as endearing and began getting annoyed. "Alright, what's up?" Jules slammed down his controller, "Did I do something?" Dylan's eyes got wide. "What? No! Listen I have been trying to work up the courage to say this all night but-" The doorbell rang. "Hold that thought." Jules said, then jumped up to get what was most likely the pizza man.

After paying and sitting back down, this time with pizza, Jules said. "Alright, what were you saying?" If it was even possible, Dylan looked more nervous than ever. "I just wanted to say, well, more like ask you." Dylan squeezed his eyes shut. "Will you go out with me?" Dylan opened his eyes, "I mean if you're up for it, not that you have to, it's just-" Dylan kept rambling. "Dylan." Jules smiled warmly and leaned toward him, effectively cutting off all ramblings. "Yes." Dylan said. And then they kissed.

Jules plopped back down next to Dylan as he wrapped his arms around Jules. "So this is a date?" Jules laughed. "Yes, Jules Carter. I believe it is." He smiled and kissed Jules on the cheek. “Now that we’re dating here is something I got you.” Dylan said. He got Jules a silver heart tiara ring as a promise ring. “Dylan, I love it.” Jules said. “And just to make you even more happy, I’m not leaving with Kevin until when summer starts.” Ethan Said. “I love you, Dylan Jones.” Jules said.

Four months later…

Not much of Dylan and Jules relationship changed after they began dating. They are still friends first, not much could change that. They’d still hung out every day, teased each other, and laughed at the same dumb jokes. But now, Jules could kiss Dylan whenever he wanted and Dylan could hug him as long as he wanted. So, it's so much better.
