YREG Diary: 1 step forward 3 steps back

It's basically being your worst enemy and you have no control of it.

I wrote this song in like may of 2021. the day i wrote it, my friend and i were doing a road trip to Texas from Atlanta. i was obsessed with Olivia Rodrigo's SOUR album then and we literally played the whole album over & over the entire 6 hour car drive. i have the best friend ever haha.

during that same trip i got a text from someone who was telling me something about their favorite song on the album & their favorite song was "one step forward and three steps back”. i had never really heard anyone use that phrase before & i thought it was super cool. when i got home, i decided to take that phrase & write a song over the stunning chords in “1 step forward & 3 steps back.”

I just wrote this song actually the day before this guy broke up with me, so I remember not being able to listen to it for a while. I think loving someone who is so inconsistent is so challenging, and just really anxiety-inducing, and makes you feel so insecure.
